I think I finally figured out how to post an image, YAY!
Here is my latest project. A Cedar / Zebrawood sortajumbo.
Ebony FB & bridge, Western BL Maple bindings & 10/10/10 BWB purflings.
This was first time for mitres & next time I'll use wider purfling so all that extra work will actually be noticeable.
This guit has had a couple of hours of playing & is starting to open up really well. It sounded like crap for the first half hour. The bass & separation are awesome, but the trebles are a bit tinny yet. It gets better with each playing though.
After all the recent discussion about optimum bridge shape, I'm almost embarassed by this bridge... I DO like the look though.

The tuners are Spertzels from Shane & I really like them. (except for the roll pins used instead of a screw)They have the best "feel" of any i've tried yet. really firm with no lag at all & the perfect gear ratio. (IMHO)
The Zebrawood is from forum member Grant Goltz.
The Cedar top I cut from local shake wood.
Nitro finish which looks a lot better in real life.

I am glad you finally got the pictures up. Like I said before, this is a guitar to be very proud of and that our community deserves to see. She is a real BEAUT!! Very tasteful lines all around.

Hi Daniel. Nice guitar sir. Matter of fact, makes me want to drag some zebra down, wow, perfect with the maple bindings. You did this one up proud. Just add two letters to reamer and you have SCREAMER! It's a dandy, congratulations.

REALLY nice looking guitar, Daniel! I love the bridge shape, and I wouldn't sweat it if I were you - just trust your ears. I also love the model name, "Sortajumbo". Right on, man. Nice rosette, nice moon on the peghead, and I think the maple binding and back stripe on the zebrawood look great. I really like sortajumbo shapes, and yours is fine specimen. Everything is very tasteful and lovely, to my eye. Bravo!

I think thats the first time I've seen finished Zebrawood.. Im impressed with how nicely it takes a finish.

Great work all around :D I definately like the binding too Anything made with maple is ok with me

Nice work! I really like the maple trim.
Oddly enough, I'm getting ready to start on a Zebrawood sortajumbo also. My nephew wants one a little bigger than my small jumbo, but a little smaller than a big jumbo. He also wants to go with ebony fb and bridge, but hasn't decided on binding yet. I'll direct him to this post and see what he thinks.
BTW, what are the body dimensions of your beast, and do you have any pics of the bracing?

Nice job Daniel. For a wood that stinks so much when you sand it, it sure looks pretty when it's finished.

Daniel, really pretty guitar. Did you have any trouble bending the Zebrawood? I've got a set here (Russell has the other) whose sides have crazy interlocked grain, or heavy localized runout, or whatever you want to call it. Lots of ribbon grain shimmer, it's really attractive, but I'm anticipating a wrestling match at the bender.

I don't have any pics of the X braced back, but here's a pic of the top bracing. I made the braces as light as I dared & expected the top to rise some. After four days, it hasn't budged... Time will tell.



The basic measurements are;
650mm scale length.
Body length 20"
Width at lower bout, 16 1/2"
Width at upper bout, 11 7/8"
Waist, 10 1/8"
Soundhole 4" diameter, Centre is 5 7/8" from 14th fret
Depth at tail, 4 11/16"
Depth at heel, 3 7/8"

Grant... You read my mind! now that I'm hooked, I guess the price will go UP.

Serge... The bridge is an "upgrade" of the one I used on my first four guitars, 25 years ago. It was inspired by David Russell Young's plan in his book "The Steel String Guitar, Construction & Repair"
I don't think I've seen an Ibanez with a pointy bridge.
Washburn built similar bridges for their early 1900s parlour guitars.

Lance... Now I'll have to go & look at Olson's site! There really is very little new under the sun.

Bruce... Two letters like H.S.??? (For the non airplane folks that's "Hamilton Standard". World famous builder of aircraft propellors.)

Roy, I don't recall the Zebrawood smelling bad. It ain't Rosewood, but certainly didn't stink. What's the olfactory equivalent of rose coloured glasses???

The Zebra bent really easy with almost no springback,but it did cup along some of the "ribbons". Next time I'll use less water. A very light spritz should do, if your wood is anything like mine was.
